Les 49 meilleures choses à faire et attractions à Bruges (2024)

Belfry of Bruges is a medieval bell tower in Bruges, Belgium that is home to a 366-step staircase leading to views. The tower also features a treasure chamber and 47-belled carillon. The Belfry is master of the Bruges skyline and former regulator of town life thanks to its impressive bell collection.

It is rustic and awesome. There are lots visitors. Better buy your tickets soon to secure your place at your convenience. In addition, while using the machine to buy your tickets just scroll down and check buy otherwise you will be giving up on purchasing the tickets. That said, I enjoyed climbing the 366 steps of the tour. At each level, there is a kind of rest place: view and learn something before moving up. I found that very interesting as I do not need and have to walk up at once the steps. Once, at the top, I appreciated the fact that I spent 14 euros to buy the visit. It was pleasant being in the air and to have another perspective on the city. I Enjoyed.

A UNESCO world heritage site located in the heart of the city. Absolutely stunning as it stands high in the sky. I could not stop admiring it as I stood for a long moment in the market square. Buying the tickets in advance is absolutely recommended. Unfortunately we could not enter inside because of the long waiting time, but the pictures from other visitors look really promising. Will definitely go to the top in our next visit.

Animesh K — Google review

Amazing landmark with a lovely view. Be aware that you have to climb all the way up as this requires significant physical effort. Book your tickets in advance in the machine at the entrance.

It’s the city centre of Brugge (a city of historic importance in Belgium). This place has wonderful 360 degree panoramic views with beautiful architecture in Bruges. This area is surrounded by coffee shops, shopping area, stores and restaurants are nearby. The center is always lively. It's a must visit area if you are in Bruges.

Ankit K — Google review

800 year old clock tower of Bruges with 366 steps up to the top. Well worth the ticket price for the views from the top. If you book your tickets for 20 minutes before the hour, you should make it to the top as the clock chimes. Amazing experience.

Laura C — Google review

Valuable time spent well with a climb to the top. Staff were friendly and helpful. Especially the kindly spoken young lad with the 3 day growth. The walk to the top was a tight fit at times and rewards the punter with not only an amazing view but a close up demonstration of the bells at work every 15 minutes. Beautiful Bruges

Shea W — Google review

Magnificent specimen of architecture! You must visit the Belfry during different times of the day. At dawn, it's tranquil and you can enjoy the tower without the distractions of large crowds. At night, the lighting brings out a different side of the tower. In the afternoons, there is a lot of commercial activity in the square and you can see the square being enjoyed by the locals.See the photos and videos for views of the Belfry and its chimes being played. It is unfortunate that lots two stroke motorcycles and mopeds regularly pass through the square and disturb the peace. They are so incongruous here.

Rajkiran N — Google review

The city’s primary landmark and tourist attraction. The climb is only for the very fit but the rest of the building and its square are a nice place to just hang out and soak in the city.Tourist trap alert: there are many “rickshaws” you can rent from the square for a city tour.

Beautiful place to visit. Kept it medieval characters well preserved. Not far from Brussels and it's only a 1hr train ride.

Admission is only worth it for those who want to walk up the tower. Which, by the way, doesn't require any special fitness, even on very warm days. From above you can actually enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of Bruges and especially the "Groten Markt", as well as marvel at the carillon.

The Belfry Tower of Bruges offers an incredible experience that blends history, culture, and stunning views. One of the most fascinating aspects is the fine-tuning of the tower’s 49 bells, where skilled craftsmen carefully shave the bells to ensure the perfect pitch. This intricate process adds to the uniqueness of the tower and is a reminder of its long-standing tradition. The tower itself is alive with energy, a bustling place that attracts visitors for its historical significance and the beautiful chimes of the carillon. As you climb the narrow steps to the top, you're rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Bruges, which are especially magical at sunset. What truly enhances the experience, though, is the rich history behind the Belfry. Learning about its origins, its role in the city’s development, and the evolution of its bell system adds depth to the visit. The tower’s centuries-old architecture, combined with the resonating sounds of the bells, creates an immersive atmosphere that takes you back in time.Even for those not particularly interested in history, the sheer beauty and charm of the Belfry make it a must-see. It’s an iconic part of Bruges, and diving deeper into its history only makes the experience more rewarding.

Patel M — Google review

Historic bell tower in the city center of Bruges. There are about 275 steps to the top and the view from up there is worth the climb. You can have a panoramic view of the old city with canals and other churches and towers. If you have time, then I suggest that you book the tickets in advance to watch the sunset, if the weather permits.

Shivesh K — Google review

We paid 15 Euro to climb the 366 steps and it can be quite dizzy because of the constant spiral loop. But it didn’t take as long as we thought, nor was it as tiring as expected. There are platforms at different levels with information where you can take a respite from the climb. Beautiful view once you reach the top.

Jennifer Y — Google review

I had a nice time there. Excellent view from the top, but be ready for a long climb up. We did not buy tickets in advance, all were sold but luckily someone did not show so they let us in. I would advice you to buy tickets in advance, not to risk. People working there are polite and welcoming.

Marko J — Google review

An amazing experience, really enjoyable. I recommend go early, we did the first session of the day as it wasn't too crowded. You do need a reasonable level of fitness to climb the 366 steps.

Mark C — Google review

Nice view from the top of it but unfortunately there is net all around so you can take good picture with the view. Booked your ticket online to climb up 300 stairs. It is interesting to see the inside and learned some history. The stairs are a bit steep but given that they control the amount of people going up per time slot it’s not too crowded.

Jamie P — Google review

Stunning and breathtaking piece of architecture/sight/landmark. It is one of the most iconic and well-known symbols of the city and one of the oldest preserved historical buildings in Bruges. Narrow stairs that can be made by everyone with physical capabilities.Recommended to visit early or late when the view is not obstructed by the huge crowd of tourists.

R B — Google review

Climbing the belfry was an amazing experience. It is not as tiring as I expected, since there are stops along the way up where one can rest. That said, the ticket price (at €14 on my visit) was a little much for a simple access to the steps with no extra features.

Fotis A — Google review

A must visit if you're in Bruges...and definitely if you've seen the movie. Tickets can be bought at the time or in allocated time slots in advance online. The stairs start off reasonably wide but get very narrow the nearer you get to the top.Anyon of a reasonable fitness level will be perfectly fine but don't worry as there are a few zooms on the way up that you can stop at should you need a rest. The views from the top are stunning although there is a wire mesh covering all the openings at the top. If the bell tolls at the top it will.probably make you jump.Overall I'd say it's pretty good value for money

Peter H — Google review

Historic place to see in Bruges. Lost of cafe and restaurant nearby. The centre in front of belfry is always lively. The look from the history museum of Bruges is nice, covering the centre, belfry and all around. Must visit area. Will also find the city tour van and tourists guide in front of it.

Harikrishanan V — Google review

Recommend you buy tickets online in advance, or at the vending machine at the bottom of the tower , or last instance at the entrance. There are tickets / time-slots , so they run fast (I think max 25 for every 20min)The climb is indeed manageable, as there are floors in between.

Alexandra R — Google review

Really enjoyed going up the Belfry, 300+ steps, but worth the price and effort to get amazing views over Antwerp. As you ascend, there are areas to rest, if needed, and learn more about the belfrys history. If you time it right, you will also see and hear the huge musical drum work as it strikes the time. The top bit is protected from birds by a black plastic mesh, but its easy to get round this for photos, by lining up your phone or camera lens to get the awesome pics! Staff were friendly and welcoming too👍

Moo M — Google review

Very worthwhile to visit and to take all 366 stairs to the highest accessible point. Mind you, stairs are quite narrow and it takes a serious effort. Breathtaking view especially with clear weather, obviously. Ticket vending machine can be found in the passage that goes under/through the belfry tower building.

Boris G — Google review

I enjoyed climbing up this tower. You can see Brugge 360 degrees. Also, we were up there when the bell rung. It was loud but it was very neat to see the hammer hitting the bell...If you want to go to this tower and a number other points of interests in Brugge, get the Museum package for 3 days. It is worth it.

Ino S — Google review

Great fun going up the 366 narrow winding steps. We picked a very windy day which added to the experience!! An amazing mechanical display as well as the bells and you can hear them playing tunes at certain times.

Patti P — Google review

Bruges all the way-- locals are more of the unfriendly side but that may be triggered by the sheer about of tourists... The buildings are beautiful , amazing, gorgeous....you seem to step back in history. Take a 70€ cottage ride that leaves from across the Belfry (cash only). 30 lovely minute ride with some explanations to history.

Sylvie J — Google review

Well, you have to have physical condition to be able to climb the stairs, I still saw gentlemen of the elderly going down with caution. It is worth reaching the top and listening to its more than 59 bells that work perfectly. The view at the top is the best.

Erick L — Google review

Incredible history and the sights at the top are breathtaking. Don't tackle the steps if you have knee or ankle problems. They are very steep in places. There are a few stopping points along the way.

Kamal E — Google review

Very nice climb up to the top. Around 300 stairs and they are pretty narrow, so be prepared. You get some great views of the city and beyond on a clear day.

Poojan R — Google review

It was great experience to walk true 366 stairs. When we were there it was not so busy with the tourists, so it was even better. You need to be ready you will walk up and how you are getting up space is getting smaller. You can buy ticket online but also in front of the tower on maschine. They are letting in like every 30 min if I remember good 20 people. Ticket was 15 euro. This is the place you have to visit if you are going in Bruges. View from up is wonderful and upstairs you can see big 🔔 bells.

Marina J — Google review

Very good view from above. In several stages it goes up 366 steps to the viewing platform under the bells.Impressive chime which is mechanically driven.Be sure to book a ticket with a time slot online in advance. It is not possible to purchase tickets on site.

Amazing building, haven’t climbed anywhere like it across all of Europe, it’s definitely a must see, and only costs around 15 euro for a standard ticket. The climb will likely exert you, I am young and fit but have asthma, and I was quite out of breath. The stairways are very narrow, and go up 7 floors, but it’s all worth it for the amazing view at the top, and the sound of the bells!

Belgische Schokolade muss man einfach lieben. Wo man auch hinschaut leckeres Essen.Wer nach Brügge kommt, sollte unbedingt die Brüsseler und auch die Belgischen frischen Waffeln probieren, denn diese sind einfach köstlich.(Translated by Google)Bruges is a must-see. The boat tours through the canals are also very impressive. You just have to love Belgian chocolate. Everywhere you look there is delicious food.If you come to Bruges, you should definitely try the Brussels and Belgian fresh waffles, because they are simply delicious.

Visiting the Belfry of Bruges was an incredible experience! The climb up the 366 steps was well worth it, as the panoramic views of the city from the top are simply breathtaking. The medieval architecture of the tower is stunning, and the carillon's 47 bells create a charming atmosphere that enhances the visit. Inside, the historical exhibits offer fascinating insights into Bruges' rich history. Overall, the Belfry beautifully encapsulates the essence of the city, making it a must-visit attraction for anyone in Bruges.

Most charming and beautiful little village. You can't miss it, trust me! Just one hour by train from brussels. Everything is so beautiful and romantic. With or without rain. A perfect place to visit ❤️

Rute P — Google review

Very impressive tower. You have to book a timeslot in advance and potentially wait until some people make their way down before you can enter. It’s 366 steps to the top and it gets quite narrow. However it’s definitely worth it, because the view over Bruges is fantastic. We went there at 14:20 and heard the bells ring while we were up.The staff was very nice and the lockers are free.

Max S — Google review

We climbed up in the evening after dark. I imagine the views would have been better during the daylight hours but it was still nice to see the city lights and also the history of the tower. The stairs aren't too difficult to climb (for an early 30s couple) with plenty of landings and floors to take breaks at, however the spiral staircase is quite narrow in places so maybe not the best for people who are nervous of confined spaces. We bought tickets online in advance and not have to queue to get in.

G D — Google review

You get to see a great view of the city, but not anything special. I recommend to book your ticket prior to your visit there, so you can get in at the time you want, however you can book the ticket the same day at the entrance, but probably there will be a spot at least a couple of hours later. There're 366 steps you get to climb, some of them were really small; dutch-type steps.I don't believe it's worth the 15€.

Fay Τ — Google review

The Belfry of Bruges isn't just a climb, it's a journey through time. This UNESCO World Heritage Site boasts stunning views from its 366-step summit, showcasing the city's red-roofed charm. But the climb itself is an adventure, with historical exhibits along the way. Be prepared for some narrow staircases, but the reward is breathtaking. For history lovers, don't miss the chance to see the impressive carillon with its 47 bells. This iconic landmark is a must-do for any Bruges adventure!

Renand A — Google review

The tower has great views from the top but there is protective wiring all round. Some really cool history from the In bruges movie. The stairs is very narrow in spots no wounder the American in the movie got stuck. Quote "I wouldn't go up there its really narrow" 🤣🤣🤣

Es lohnt sich früh zu sein. Wir haben einen Rundgang mit Bootstour gebucht. Unser Tourguide hieß Stefan. Es war eine schöne Stadtführung, ca. 2,5 Stunden. Leckeren Kaffee gibt es in der Wasbar. Hier kann man sogar seine Wäsche waschen.(Translated by Google)It's worth being early. We booked a tour with a boat tour. Our tour guide was called Stefan. It was a nice city tour, about 2.5 hours. There is delicious coffee in the Wasbar. You can even do your laundry here.

We bought the tickets and waited for 20 mins for our turn. If you have a timed online ticket, it might be easier. There are 366 steps to climb to the top of the tower to have a 360 view of the beautiful Brugge. It's a bit hard, but there are 3 levels to get to the top so you can rest. You can also see the largest brass drum to play a piece of music every 15 mins

A very nice place specially at night! The Belfry of Bruges is a must-see landmark in the heart of this picturesque Belgian city. Rising 83 meters above the bustling Markt square, the medieval tower offers a glimpse into Bruges' rich history and architectural grandeur. Climbing its 366 narrow steps is no easy feat, but the effort is well rewarded. The panoramic views of Bruges’ canals, red-roofed buildings, and surrounding countryside are breathtaking, making it an ideal spot for photography enthusiasts. The tower itself is steeped in history. Built in the 13th century, it once housed the city’s treasury and municipal archives, serving as a symbol of Bruges’ medieval power. The carillon, which consists of 47 bells, adds a unique charm, with the sound resonating across the city, especially during the regular concerts.Inside, the exhibits on Bruges’ history, bell-making, and the tower’s role in civic life are informative, though somewhat limited in scope. Visitors who enjoy historical sites and don’t mind the climb will find the Belfry a rewarding experience.Overall, the Belfry of Bruges is a striking reminder of the city’s medieval past, and the view from the top makes it well worth the visit.

Shadi A — Google review

Amazing view of the city and the literal central point of the city. We reserved and booked time slots the day before to go up but also it sells out quickly so try to book as early as possible. We also went on a weekend but it was in February. Lots of climbing but its not too bad, there are multiple levels you can stop and relax. The one right before the top is nice, you can see how the bells work. Last is the pure lookout point and you have a nice view of the city.

Josh B — Google review

Man sollte einen Timeslot buchen, dann muss man nicht warten.(Translated by Google)366 steps to the top and the last section is very narrow but worth it!From above you have a great overview of Bruges. There are several intermediate levels where you can take a quick breath and look at some exhibits and information boards. You should book a timeslot so you don't have to wait.

I came here early June because I loved the movie. The movie was set in winter I assume because in summer there are soooooooooo many tourists! Lots of cafe and restaurants. I loved the buildings but when you fighting again tide of people going the other way you have to say...should they restrict the numbers?. A tourist spot shouldne more than lovely old buildings. Sure there are some museums but maybe there should be more buildings to enter.

Towering over Bruges' Market Square, the Belfry isn't just a view, it's a climb worth taking! 366 steps lead you to the top, rewarding you with panoramic views of this medieval city. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it's not just a bell tower, but a symbol of Bruges' rich history and power. The bells still chime, adding to the city's charm!

Liliana B — Google review

You pay 15 euros to climb narrow flights and flights of stairs. Its totally worth the all around city views but you need your good lungs there! Also if you like bells and music and big clockwork mexhanism, this place is for you!

Juhi K — Google review

Well worth the visit! We booked the 9am time slot the morning of our visit, which I would highly recommend - I imagine the stairs could get tricky when it gets busy. The views from the top were lovely, and the bells are great to see.

Jessica G — Google review

The Belfort or Belfry is the iconic landmark in the center of Bruges. It’s a medieval bell tower built around the year 1240. We bought tickets online for a Tuesday 9:40 time slot. The booking system is super easy because it tells you how many tickets are left for each time slot, and you don’t need to book too far in advance. There weren’t too many people when we went but there were already people coming back down. There are some areas of the climb that are narrow, so just be mindful of that. It took us about 15 minutes to get to the top and when you get up there, it is so cool! You see the actual bell (beware, it’s LOUD, obviously since you’re right next to it) and you can look down on the square. Although it’s not a complete 360 view since the bell blocks some of the access, it’s still a sight to see. The whole experience from going up, taking photos at the top, coming back down took us about 45 minutes. It did start getting a bit more crowded when we were heading back down, so my recommendation is to go early.Definitely a must see if you’re in Bruges!

Melanie T — Google review

We really wanted to visit it and when we arrived at 16.55 there was only one ticket available from 17.00. The gentlemen at the counter were very kind and still gave us two tickets. If you can plan to arrive at a certain time, I recommend you book tickets, otherwise you might not find tickets. The access staircase is quite narrow and those going down have priority. It is worth 15 euros and all the 366 steps for a fantastic view.

Laurentiu C — Google review

We loved visiting this spot. Great views of this from the main square. We planned to climb up the bell tower which is 366 steps, but there was a wait of two hours so we ended up skipping it.

Praneet R — Google review

I just fell in love with this city... We visited the belfry tower.. It has steps to climb. There was some construction work going on too... Overall we loved the vibes of the city. We sat near the tower and enjoyed our family time. Buggies are also available. But the main attraction was the chocolates shops.. You just can't resist.

Ruby A — Google review

Befort is nice to visit. A interesting building with a long history. The displays are nice explained. The dragon is the highlight for me. Seeing the size of this (old) sculpture is impressing. Even on a rainy day, you can have a wonderful view on the city. The second highlight is the clock mechanics. Take you time to wait until the clockwork starts (all 15 minutes).

Stefan B — Google review

Stunning and breathtaking piece of architecture/sight/landmark. It is one of the most iconic and well-known symbols of the city and one of the oldest preserved historical buildings in Bruges. It always reminds me of the classic - In Bruges.Recommended to visit early or late when the view is not obstructed by the huge crowd of tourists.

Richárd V — Google review

I went to the Belfry of Bruges late this afternoon. It was included on my Brugge Museum Pass. No queues. In total there are 366 stairs, but there are things to see on the floors on the way up so it's not like you climb them all at once! It was a bit of an overcast sky but the views from the top are great. The bells sound a different tune each quarter hour, so listen out for that. Highly recommended (excuse the pun).
